Blood Flow Restriction
Personalized BFR rehabilitation is the brief and intermittent occlusion of venous blood flow using a specialized tourniquet system while exercising. Using this technique, you can exercise with significantly lighter weight while still creating a hypertrophy (growth) and strength response. The goal is to reduce just enough blood flow to create positive changes, however, the amount of pressure varies between individuals. A specialized system is used with built in doppler to monitor and account for these variables. Once your personalized pressure is determined, you will begin specific exercises based on your needs. Even though you are lifting light weight, your muscles will begin to feel like they are working extremely hard. This feeling is a build up of lactate and is the desired response of the training. This build up can cause positive effects including increase in growth hormone (GH) and increase in muscle protein synthesis which impacts your muscles ability to grow. Proper nutrition to maximize these effects are beneficial and can be discussed at your appointment.
